Position Specific Description

Interested in working in renewables and making an impact with the changing grid? NextEra Energy’s PGD Engineering and Operations Technical Services team is looking for a senior electrical engineer for the Wind Turbine Equipment Engineering team.

While experience in power generation is desired, it is not required. A successful candidate should be able to apply a diversified knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and fields related to wind power generation. All candidates must be continuous learners who enjoy working in a collaborative and dynamic environment. Candidates that are Subject Matter Experts in one area that desire to branch out or diversified candidates wishing to become a Subject Matter Expert are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities include:

  • Remote and on-site technical support for NextEra Energy’s wind fleet

  • Development of advanced analytic strategies to enable improved failure predictions and maintenance

  • Maintenance & repair development for power distribution systems and/or power electronic components

  • Root cause analysis

  • Develop and lead continuous improvement and cost effective initiatives

Wind Turbine Equipment Team Areas of responsibility:

  • Generators & motors

  • Power Distribution Equipment (Transformers, cables, busbar, breakers, contactors, harnesses, etc)

  • Power Conversion

  • Power Electronics

  • Analysis areas: Reactive Power, Short Circuit, Arc flash, Load Flow

Role will require 25% travel and ability to climb wind turbines

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ years electrical engineering work experience

  • Subject Matter expertise in one or more areas and responsibilities mentioned above

  • Six Sigma certification

  • Experience in power generation

  • Experience in root cause analysis and/or troubleshooting

  • Experience in part specification and procedure/manual writing

• Completes assignments given in broad terms concerning general objectives and limitations

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
